Introduction to Positive/ Negative Space

On Wednesday September 22 the class defined art terms such as composition, principles of design, positive/negative space, and balance in their sketch books.

They looked at photos of plants such as the one below and discussed how as artists we can take an ordinary object and turn it into something interesting to look at. An image cane be altered by zooming in and cropping it.

The class was instructed to create 3 new compositions out of an image of a plant. They were asked to demonstrate their understanding of balancing positive and negative space.
